What is a domus?
The Romans house of the second and third century is known as "a domus", where rich Romans used to live.
Which parts does a "Domus" have?
There are 12 different parts:
Ostium: The Ostium is the principal door, all people that wanted to go inside the domus had to go through this big and squared shape door.
Vestibulum: The vestibulum was like the hall in the domus, it was the first room that people who had enter in the domus found.
Tabernae: It was a hut that was used like a store or like little shops.
Atrium: It was the main place in the domus, it used to be square shaped and had a lot of flowers and statues.
Compluvium: It was a hole in the ceiling of the house, square shaped and it was here where all the rain water fell down.
Impluvium: This was a like a rectangular pound full of water. It was in the Vestibulum.
Tablinum: It was a room in the background of the Atrium.
Alae: It was a way of shelf defense of the house.
Cubiculum: Cubiculum in latin means the rooms of the domus that were round the atrium, it was like a bedroom
Culina: This room was like the kitchen, it was a small room, dark and without ventilation.
Peristilum: This is the gallery of columns that rounds the building.
